PARTNERING WITH PEOPLE FOR CHANGE

Baroda Citizens Council (BCC) was initiated in 1966 by the American Friends Service Committee (Quakers Group), in a tripartite partnership with the Federation of Gujarat Industries, Vadodara Municipal Corporation & M. S. University of Vadodara. BCC is one of the oldest, most experienced and well recognized community development organizations in the country. It has been committed to bring about social change through development programs for the underprivileged. It has successfully managed various health, education, community development, and women and youth empowerment based projects with a special focus on the betterment of children. BCC believes that ‘Education is the key to Development’, and is the only way to empower an underprivileged child to create his/her own future. Since its inception, it has supported the development and upbringing of many underprivileged children.

Today there are several projects managed by BCC that are targeted towards the protection of child rights, rescue and rehabilitation of child laborers, improving nutrition levels in children, and raising the literacy rate by providing pre-school, formal and non-formal education through educational sponsorships.

BARODA CITIZENS COUNCIL INITIATIVES

Protecting Rights of Children in Cotton Farming Areas
Baroda Citizens Council is implementing the idea conceived by IKEA Social Initiative in partnership with UNICEF, to promote child rights and terminate the concept of child labour in cotton farming areas through this project, in the villages of Talukas— Dabhoi, Shinor, Karjan, Waghodia, and Vadodara of Vadodara District. Leading to the formation of Child protection Committees & Village Information Centres and initiation of Special Training Programs in more than 200 villages, benefiting the villagers living below poverty line, who are battling just to avail basic necessities of life, through linkages with various government schemes and rehabilitating the children working at a tender age when they should be studying by providing education.
